Fuel and Maintenance Parts Needed for Wells, Stations, Pipelines, and Building Materials

Gaza Municipality: Emergency Projects Halted Due to Ongoing Aggression and Lack of Resources

Gaza Municipality is facing significant difficulties in implementing urgent and essential projects due to the ongoing aggression and genocidal war, as well as the lack of basic materials necessary for project implementation caused by the blockade and the Israeli occupation’s prevention of their entry through crossings.

The municipality suffers from the unavailability of fuel, machinery, maintenance parts for water wells and sewage stations, pipelines, building materials, and other materials and equipment essential for the maintenance of service facilities.

The municipality reported that 13 vital projects out of 16 listed have entered the contracting phase, but actual implementation remains impossible due to the ongoing aggression, repeated evacuations, and the escalation of field conditions, especially in the eastern neighborhoods of the city which are enduring difficult circumstances due to the aggression.

The projects focus on two main sectors: the water sector, which includes 9 projects for well rehabilitation, and the service facilities sector, which includes repair and maintenance works for municipal facilities.

Currently ongoing projects include the supply and installation of an electrical panel for Sheikh Ajleen Well No. 5 with a completion rate of 90%, rehabilitation of several wells with a 93% completion rate, and drilling a new artesian well in the Al-Nasser neighborhood with an 83% completion rate, in addition to other projects being implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

On the other hand, work has stopped on several vital projects due to the aggression, most notably the Qaisariya Market restoration project with a 44% completion rate, maintenance of the Gaza Municipality main building with 32% completion, and drilling an artesian well in the Zeitoun neighborhood (Well No. 12) with a 50% completion rate.

The municipality’s efforts have focused on opening and leveling damaged roads and removing rubble from vital streets, including the intersections of Saeed Al-As and Khaled Al-Hassan streets, the intersection of Taha Hussein and Yarmouk streets, as well as Az-Zaytun Al-Qassam, Barcelona, Beirut, Cairo streets, and the Sheikh Radwan area.

The municipality indicated that its crews responded during the current month to 58 complaints related to roads out of a total of 91 complaints registered this month, using very limited machinery, consisting of one bulldozer and only two trucks hired from the private sector.

Gaza Municipality calls on the international community and international organizations to intervene urgently and assist in providing the municipality’s needs and enabling it to deliver basic humanitarian services, stressing that the city is experiencing an escalating and severe disaster.
